Public transport less used last year
In the last quarter of 2011 and in the last year in general, passenger traffic with public transport decreased a little: respectively by 2.5% and 1.5%, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
In the 4th quarter of 2011, 4.8 million passengers used railway transport which is by 0.4% less than in the 4th quarter of 2010. Inland railway passenger transport decreased by 0.3%, but international railway passenger transport (mainly between Latvia and Russia) – by 1.9%. In total, number of railway passengers decreased by 1.7% last year, compared to the previous year.
In the 4th quarter, 30 million passengers were transported by regular busses – 3.5% less, compared to October – December of the previous year. Most (99.7%) passengers transported by regular busses used inland transport. Inland passenger transport with regular busses decreased by 3.4%, but international transport – by 12.4%. In total, number of passengers transported by regular busses, compared to the previous year, decreased by 4.4% last year.
23.1 million passengers were transported by city electric transport which is by 1.7% less than in the corresponding period of the previous year. Number of trolleybus passengers decreased by 0.7%, but tram passengers – by 2.8%. In 2011, 87.8 million passengers were transported by city electric transport which is by 2.8% more than in 2010.
